DESCRIPTION
The mission of BPEP HE in the study field 06.04.01 Biology, master’s degree programme Molecular Biology and Biochemistry consists in:
- training highly qualified specialists with creative thinking in the field of molecular biology and biochemistry, focused on successful professional activity, who are competitive specialists in the labor market, taking into account regional needs in the field of research into the molecular-structural organization of living systems and biochemical patterns of their existence, the use of biological systems for economic and medical purposes, environmental protection;
who are able to use modern information technologies for processing the results of conducted research, capable and ready for innovative development of scientific institutions and individual organizations;
- shaping a worldview that allows implementing research and educational activities in the field of molecular biology and biochemistry, molecular diagnostics of human genome disorders, molecular ecology, medical genetics, genetic engineering, gene and cell technology, general and environmental biotechnology, monitoring the state of biota; judgments on scientific and social problems of molecular genetic and biochemical research and high-tech monitoring of bioresources; the ability to build and implement paths of intellectual, cultural, moral, physical and professional self-development, as well as the possibility of further in-depth specialization during postgraduate studies;
- creating conditions for the personal and professional development of the student, facilitating their effective adaptation in the socio-cultural environment of the Russian and international community, developing in students a sense of patriotism, citizenship, respect for historical memory, law and order, for the working person and the older generation, mutual respect, careful attitude towards cultural heritage and national traditions, nature and the environment.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:
• apply fundamental biological concepts and modern methodological approaches to formulate and
• solve new non-standard tasks within professional activity;
• creatively use knowledge of fundamental and applied sections of the study field (that determine the focus of the Master’s degree programme) in professional activity;
• use philosophical concepts of natural science and ideas of modern biosphere processes for system- based assessment and forecast of development within professional activity;
• conduct environmental assessments of land and water areas, as well as technological production using biological methods for assessing environmental and biological safety;
• participate in creating and implementing new technologies within professional activity and in monitoring their environmental safety using living objects;
• creatively apply and modify modern technologies, to work with professional databases, to professionally design and present new developments;
• independently determine the research scope and strategy within professional activity, to make decisions, including innovative ones, to select and modify methods, to take responsibility for the quality of work and implementation of results, to ensure occupational safety when solving a specific task;
• use modern research equipment and computing technology to solve innovative tasks in professional activity;
• conduct research in the field of molecular biology and genetics, to develop innovative tools, as well as algorithms for solving research tasks;
• analyze and develop research based methods and technologies for obtaining new scientific knowledge, as well as electronic resources of the digital scientific environment;
• conduct project-based research in the study field, including projects with extra-budgetary funding;
• conduct examination and environmental monitoring of biological objects and ecosystems based on obtained research data using modern genetic methods;
• conduct expert analytical research in a biochemical laboratory.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates can work in other areas and (or) sectors of professional activity (Education and science (in the field of scientific research of living nature; scientific research using biological systems for economic and medical purposes, for the purpose of nature conservation, natural environment and human health conservation), provided that their level of training and acquired competences correspond to the requirements for employee qualifications.
